TRAVEL: Spending a week at Ladram Bay Holiday Park - What is there to see and do?

Ladram Bay Holiday Park is a five star, family owned Holiday Park nestled on the Jurassic Coast, which boasts the most stunning sea views for as far as the eye can see. There is an array of accommodation to suit everyone and the onsite facilities mean you won't have to leave the Holiday Park if you don't want to. We spent a week there in the middle of June and were blown away with the range of activities, facilities and breathtaking views. As we drove through the winding countryside roads of Devon leading up to Ladram Bay Holiday Park we were not prepared for what was to come. You go from green countryside to entering a caravanning haven filled with pitches for touring caravans, holiday homes, luxury lodges with hot tubs, glamping pods and even a Bell Tent. Truly a type of accommodation for everyone; one to suit your needs, requirements and budget.

We stayed in a Ladram Gold Plus, which is a luxurious holiday home situated on the front row so you have uninterrupted sea views that you can make the most of from your private enclosed balcony. We were honestly blown away by our holiday home; the views, luxurious touches and clever storage all made our week stay feel like a real get away. As you enter the Ladram Gold Plus you are greeted with a complementary bottle of wine, welcome pack (top tip - pack your own extra toilet roll, washing up liquid and kitchen roll), three bedrooms (2x twins and 1x double with en-suite toilet/sink), shower room and a surprisingly spacious living/kitchen/dining room area. Then as you walk through to the front of the holiday home you can open the double doors onto your own enclosed balcony equipped with table and chairs and the stunning coastal views. Something worth noting is that this holiday home sleeps up to six people n the bedrooms, however there was only seating in both the kitchen and on the balcony for four people.
Check-in for Ladram Gold Plus (this does vary depending on your accommodation choice) is at the early time of 1pm, which means that you can make the most of your whole first day. This is a real rarity when it comes to check-in times and does make all the difference to how long your holiday feels. We arrived at around 2pm (traffic delays were to blame!) and spent the first few hours discovering what Ladram Bay Holiday Park had to offer before going to collect a Tesco Click & Collect order and then settling in the for the night. Unfortunately for most of our week away it rained on and off each day, but we didn't let that stop us exploring both the Holiday Park and the local area.

Personally, I think the stand out feature is their private sheltered pebble beach that is surrounded by cliffs and is home to the Beach Shack where you can not only buy snacks/drinks/ice-creams, but also hire motor boats, rowing boats, paddle boards and kayaks too. The walk between our holiday home and the beach was a couple of minutes; how perfect is that?! It meant that in the small gaps between rain showers we could head down to the beach for a little paddle or wander across the bay. On the Friday we checked out the sun decided to finally shine so we spent a good few hours on the beach making the most of the weather before heading back home. It is such a well sheltered beach that it is ideal for paddling, swimming and is a safe area for children to enjoy too (although to be aware of the sea gulls - they are ruthless and stole my ice-cream from my hand!).

The other facilities we made the most of during our stay was the impressive swimming pool, adventure dinosaur golf, indoor soft play, arcades, children's outdoor play area, Pebbles restaurant and the Fish & Chip takeaway. It doesn't matter whether it is rain or shine the whole family can enjoy the swimming pool area, as there is a main pool, interactive children's play pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym, cafĂ© and outdoor splash zone that boasts interactive water features, spray guns and a pirate ship. If you are planning a four night stay then I'd certainly say there is enough to see and do onsite for children, so that you wouldn't have to leave if you didn't want to. There is also a climbing wall, Pickles' Playtime, Ozzie's Club, evening entertainment and bookable activities available for an additional charge (an activity pass for up to 10 activities is £40), including Water Walkerz, Sea Scooters, Inflatable Canoes, Body Zorbs and Table Tennis.

Aside from the activities there are three places to eat onsite, which are Pebbles Restaurant, Coast Takeaway and the Beach Shack, as well as the Ladram Bay Store that sells an impressive range of food, gifts, drinks and essentials. Pebbles Restaurant is in the same building as the indoor soft play, arcades, climbing wall etc. and right next to the outdoor play area and swimming pool, so is perfectly located if you're looking for a meal while out enjoying any of these facilities. It also has beautiful views over Ladram Bay and if the weather is nice you can sit outside on the balcony to really make the most of the sea views. We visited Pebbles Restaurant for lunch one day during our stay and were seriously impressed with the menu range, meals and children's menu too. They are open from 9am every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as offering Character Breakfasts on certain dates throughout the year.

Coast Takeaway is located down by the Ladram Bay Store and offers everything you'd expect from a traditional seaside takeaway. It is really convenient having this onsite, as it meant that there was no need to drive anywhere in the evening and I could sneak out while Isabella and Poppy were asleep to collect our dinner one night. It would have been nice to have a takeaway menu in the holiday home though, so that we knew the menu prior to visiting. Finally, the Beach Shack is down on the beach and serves delicious ice-creams, hot/cold drinks and snacks, all of which can be enjoyed on the new outdoor decking area overlooking the bay. We enjoyed an ice-cream here on our last day and despite a sea gull stealing mine from my hand I think you'd struggle to find anywhere else with a prettier coastal view to enjoy a seaside treat.

A real stand out feature of booking a holiday here is that included in all holiday homes and lodges you get:
  • Fully fitted kitchen with cooker, microwave and fridge
  • Freeview colour TV and DVD player
  • Pillows, duvets and bed linen (certain exclusions apply to Comfort grade)
  • Gas, electricity and hot water included
  • Access to the Three Rocks Complex
  • Swimming Pool passes for all of the family (certain exclusions apply to Comfort grade)
  • Free nightly entertainment
  • Cots, bedguards, pushchairs and highchairs for hire
I'm not really sure if this is a downside or actually a positive for some, but the 3G/4G and WiFi connection throughout the Holiday Park was very limited, if non-existent at times. We did have the extra WiFi code that you can pay for during your stay, however in the Ladram Gold Plus Holiday Home we stayed in (number 9) the WiFi didn't really work. I did have 3G, but as you can imagine after a couple of days I had used all my data up. You could use this as an opportunity to fully switch off, but these days we are all so much more reliant on our phones/tablets that it is something worth considering when booking a stay here.

If you are looking to leave the Holiday Park at all then Crealy Family Theme Park is very close by and if you book tickets at Ladram Bay Holiday Park then you get a 25% discount, so is well worth doing. During our stay we visited the beach at Budleigh Salterton, drove down to Salcombe for the day and went to Pecorama in Beer. We had such a lovely time staying at Ladram Bay Holiday Park and would highly recommend it if you're looking for stunning views, lots of child-friendly entertainment and accommodation with that extra luxurious touch.

Have you visited the Jurassic Coast in Devon before?
