#LITTLELOVES: Choc Shot Shortbread, The Unmumsy Mum and New Car

This has been a much more positive week of maternity leave, in fact I've managed to keep so busy I don't know where the week has gone! We managed to buy a new car last weekend, so I've been able to get around and see people. I met my friend's 5 week old baby at the beginning of the week, along with many mummy friends, which was so lovely. I had forgotten quite how small newborn babies are, mind you she was around 7lbs 1oz which is a lot smaller than Isabella ever was outside of my womb. So teeny tiny! I've ploughed through a lot of blogging work, ticked a lot of jobs off the to-do list and finally had carpet put into Isabella's new bedroom. Not long until she moves in there now; I can't believe it!

The Unmumsy Mum book. This isn't anything new and in fact after the release of that Daily Mail article The Unmumsy Mum has been hot news this week. But I've been reading her first book at every opportunity this week and been, quite literally, laughing out loud. In fact, crying with laughter as I read my favourite parts out to my husband. Especially the night feed 5 step routine...hilarious! We're laughing about it now, but with my due date only being two weeks away we'll be entering that tough newborn world again very soon.
Three Girls on BBC 1. It's a three part series based around the sexual abuse that happened in Rochdale. It's not an easy watch and is extremely emotional at times, but I feel like it's an important watch too. It was such an horrendous thing to repeatedly happen in Rochdale over many years and the tv programme does a really good job of making you feel like you're in the middle of both the police investigation and the girl's experiences.

The engine of my new car. As I mentioned I finally got a new car at the weekend and after a lot of initial panicking, worrying and feeling incapable of driving it I am starting to get there. It's only slightly bigger than my previous car, so although driving it is ok parking is what I'm still really nervous about. I don't understand why people want the really big cars, they take up the whole car parking space and you can barely get out of the car. Well, the fact I'm 37 weeks pregnant doesn't help either!
Choc Shot Shortbread. A friend came over for a play date on Wednesday, so I decided to make some kind of biscuit accompaniment to the inevitable endless cups of tea we'd be having. I had a go at adding Sweet Freedom Choc Shot into a shortbread recipe and they turned out really well. If you're not familiar with Choc Shot then it is essentially a chocolate flavoured fruit syrup that is only 14 calories per teaspoon (a lot less than it's chocolate counterpart!). It's delicious over fresh fruit, ice-cream, pancakes etc. or can be used to make a lower calories hot chocolate. By adding some to the shortbread mixture meant we had chocolatey shortbread without all the added calories.

I'm really struggling to be honest and with only two weeks to go I don't want to buy anything new. I ripped a dress by leaning down thanks to my huge bump, can barely fit shoes on thanks to ridiculous swelling and very much feel like a waddling beached whale (what a lovely image). I've never appreciated getting into my pyjamas quite as much as I have this week.

When my husband brings home goodies. Particularly when these goodies are baby related, it makes my heart melt. For some reason if my husband goes out of his way to buy either Isabella or the bump something it melts my heart. Perhaps it's because he doesn't do it very often or that I'm usually the person buying the clothes or that he doesn't really like shopping, either way when he came home with these tiny vests from H&M I welled up! Two words...pregnancy hormones. The addition of Krispy Kreme donuts was simply an added bonus.

What have you been loving this week?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  1. Aww how sweet of your hubby - I don't think mine ever bought anything for our little boy himself. Mmm choc shot in shortbread - shame it doesn't make the shortbread healthier or I'd be all over it like a rash, I hate dieting! I want to watch 3 Girls, need to stick it on catch up over the weekend I think. Glad you found a car you like. Have a lovely weekend x

  4. I've been watching Three Girls too, and agree that although it is such a hard watch it is so important. Those poor children, it was horrific.
That's so sweet of your husband to bring home those treats. Mine never thinks of anything like that!
    Enjoy the weekend! xxx

  9. I love the Unmumsy Mum's first book, plan on buying the second one this weekend. I think even Dads should read it just for the laughter. It helps in the early months! Pregnancy bump clothing issues are ways awkward, but on the plus side you can buy yourself a new wardrobe. I once split my work trousers when I no longer fit into them at 8 months gone. Embarassing to say the least! Good luck with the birth #ThatFridayLinky

  10. Three girls was so good. I almost gave up after ep 1, it was so upsetting. I can't handle it, esp now being a mum. But gave ep 2 a go and glad I watched it to the end. Those girls were so so brave. Horrible.

  13. Shortbread and Krispy Kreme...this post has made me hungry! I feel your pain (I'm just shy of 37 weeks) so I know how important little treats are. I've still not tried Choc Shot, despite it being mentioned practically every week at SlimmingWorld. I need to give it a go.
