CHILDREN: Keeping Protected this Summer with Splash About UV Sun Suits

Summer is finally here and we are being graced with more frequent beautiful sunny days. Doesn't parenting just get so much easier in the summer? The children can happily play outside in the garden, holidays may happen and all of the outdoor spaces can be explored again. However, it is vital that we keep our children protected from the sun during the summer months. You don't have to be going on holiday abroad to be thinking about sun protection; if this year is anything like last (kind of hoping it's not, as I'll be pretty heavily pregnant!) then we'll be enjoying another hot summer here in the United Kingdom. Splash About have an impressive range of swimwear designed to protect our little ones from the sun, sea and wind, so that they can have fun in the sun and we can relax knowing that they are protected from the elements.

Their Toddler 3/4 Length UV Suits (from £22 - available in sizes up to 3-4 years) come in an array of designs, patterns and colours, including Shark Orange, Garden Birds, Into the Woods and Dragonfly which Poppy is wearing here. This range of sunsuits has 3/4 length legs and full length arms, so that most of their body is covered and therefore has UPF 50+ against UVA and UVB rays. Reassuringly this level of protection is still there when the sunsuit is wet, making it ideal for splashing about in the paddling pool, a day at the beach or swimming on holiday. It was really easy to get on and off Poppy and she had completely free movement to kick/splash around. The material is thin enough to keep toddlers cool on the warmer days and this also means that it doesn't take too long to dry either.
If you have a slightly older child then their range of UV Sun & Sea Suits (from £24.99) are ideal, as they their size range is: 1-2 years, 2-4 years and 4-6 years. You can tell from the size range that these suits are designed to last a long time and would probably do at least two summers. Isabella is four years old and is wearing the 4-6 years size, which as you can see has lots of growing room in. As with the Toddler 3/4 Length UV Suits, the UV Sun & Sea Suits come in a range of fun designs, including: Under the Sea, Green Gecko, Pink Blossom and Owl & the Pussycat which Isabella is wearing.
These suits are a combination of two of Splash About's best designs; their UPF 50+ range and wetsuits, giving children protection yet warmth. The super soft Nylon Lycra UV fabric is combined with high quality flexible neoprene, so that children's core is kept warm while they are still protected from the harmful rays and harsh wind. Isabella absolutely loved wearing her UV Sun & Sea Suit instead of a regular swimming costume, especially during this holiday as we had rain most of the time!
Isabella is also wearing a Go Splash Float Jacket (from £22.99), which was a complete revelation for us. For a long time Isabella has worn armbands, but now that she is getting a bit older she wants to learn to swim and finds moving her arms a bit tricky with armbands on. The Go Splash Float Jacket has 8 adjustable floats that you can remove in pairs as and when your child becomes more confident in the water. It is worth noting that this is not a life saving device and constant supervision is needed at all times. However, it is the perfect starter for children to learn how to swim independently and doesn't impede their movement either. It has UPF 50+ for added protection in and out of the water, a strong a secure YKK zip, is made from super soft high quality 3mm neoprene with flat seams for comfort and the soft binding is there to prevent rubbing. You can order this in either 1-3 years or 3-6 years, so again is a product that is designed to last over many years making it a very affordable option.

  1. These look great. I always try and buy sunsafe costumes for my lot. They're so fair skinned and it's nice to know I don't have to worry too much about their skin in the sun.

  4. I do love these UV suits, although I do wish that they would put the zips on the front so that the children can have independence when toileting

  8. These were not around when my children were young. They seem to be a very good idea. My top tip for playing in the sun is keep it short. It is easy for children to become overheated very quickly.

  9. These kind of suits are life savers when you have little kids, there were so many little ones wearing them in Turkey when we went recently.

  10. These are such a good idea, my twins were allergic to many different sun creams so these protected their skin without suncream
