My 2.5 year old still doesn't sleep through the night and I'm exhausted, we have tried everything and he is just a poor sleeper while my eldest was much better, self soothed and would sleep through the nights most nights from a young age. We did the same with each but they are just so different. Thankfully though my youngest wasn't much of a crier and slept better than my oldest did. I don't know about the self-soothing thing but I was told to let them cry it out. I never could do that and both of my boys turned out great. He loves the rain (pink noise) and harp music, and Ewan has travelled EVERYWHERE with us. I think any white noise soothing instrument, be it your turtle or something else, can really help babies (and older ones) drift off to sleep.
