TEETHING: Our Top 5 Products

Isabella's first tooth cut through at only 5 months, with her second arriving by 5.5 months! So we started the teething journey slightly earlier than most and boy what a fun journey that is. Cue mass dribbling (think Niagara falls), lots of sleepless nights, sad baby and your security blanket becoming Calpol. It's been a hard start to teething and I'm fully aware it's not going to get any easier, so I thought I'd share some of our top products that have helped us through the beginning of teething.

Nuby Twista Ball* (£3.99) - This teether is a staple in my changing bag because it doubles up as a toy too. It's fun and functional, with aspects that have been specially designed to massage and soothe sore gums. Isabella can easily hold this herself and give it a good gnaw, offering her some level of relief.
Nelsons Teetha Teething Granules (£3.49) - These are more of a homoeopathic remedy for teething, with each little sachet containing more of a powder than granules. You just tip the powder into your babies mouth and let it dissolve away. Isabella actually really enjoys having these sachets, she's often licking her lips after trying to get every last grain! I'm not sure how much these take the pain away, but they do seem to help her to calm down if she's all worked up from the pain.

Calprofen Ibrophen (£3.15) - We were finding that standard Calpol just wasn't doing a good enough job at relieving the pain, so we upped our game. Calprofen Ibrophen is available from places like Boots and we've found it to be better at easing the pain, probably because it's aimed at reducing swelling. This one comes with a spoon, rather than a syringe, so we found it easier to add a dose into her bedtime bottle. It saves the stress of trying to coordinate a tiny spoon, filled with sticky Calprofen into Isabella's quick moving mouth!
Sophie La Girafe* (£13.99) - This is an essential for a lot of parents, all of my mummy friends have one and there's a good reason for its popularity. Isabella loves chewing on Sophie's nose, especially when making that annoying squeaking noise when rubbed against her gums! It's light enough for her to hold herself, so it's been a good one while she's in her pushchair and we're out.
Nuby 4-Stage Oral Care System* (£5.99) - Since Isabella now actually has teeth we have had to start caring for them. This 4-Stage System includes everything we'll need for all stages of teething - a silicone massager for tender gums, a massaging brush for us to brush Isabella's teeth with her help, a different massaging brush for teaching toddlers proper brushing habits and finally a nylon bristle brush for a toddler to brush their own teeth like we do. We've been using the silicone massager at the back of Isabella's mouth and the first massaging brush for her two tiny little toothy pegs - so cute!

  1. Ooh, good to know! Jenson doesn't have any poking through yet but he's been dribbling and chewing for ages and has started to get random grumps the last week or two. Plus today he started sucking on his lips and pulling the most adorable old man faces. The granules seem to help to calm him down a bit but he got quite upset earlier. Fortunately it was his Daddy's day off and he's off for two weeks from Monday so it helps to have someone else to try and soothe him when it gets a bit overwhelming.
