PREGNANCY #2: 20 Week Update

Half way! I know everyone says this, but I seriously can't believe I'm already half way through this pregnancy. It both excites and terrifies me, while all becoming a lot more real. As I've mentioned before this pregnancy isn't anything like my first, there's barely a moment to stop and embrace pregnancy. I'm certainly not complaining, Isabella is the reason why I simply can't concentrate on this pregnancy as much but it just means that time flies.

We had our 20 week scan this week, at 20 weeks and 3 days to be precise, and it was incredible. We arrived at the hospital in plenty of time and headed straight up to the ultrasound unit. After listening in to a couple of conversations (cheeky I know!) it became evident that they were well behind schedule. After over an hour wait (and a very desperate pregnant lady - a full bladder is certainly what they got) we were finally called in. I was actually really nervous this time, as they were doing all of the important checks on baby. We both got to see the heartbeat and then the sonographer turned the screen away and started doing all the necessary checks. It felt like such a long time of looking up at the ceiling before she said that my bladder was too full, would you believe, so I was sent off to half empty my bladder. A tricky task at the best of times, but I was just eager to know if everything was ok. The sonographer tried scanning again and still couldn't see the whole of the heart. I then had to lie on my side for a few minutes, which made baby move and all of the heart was seen. We were then informed that everything looked 'normal', though the scan can't be a guarantee. It was such a relief!

There was a sneaky scan we had back when I was 16 weeks that I didn't mention on these updates, which was a private gender scan. I explain more about our reasons why we had one in our gender reveal post, which will be coming very soon...so make sure you follow me on social media if you want to know whether bump is a girl or boy! We then had the gender confirmed at the 20 week scan this week, luckily it was the same as I may have already done a spot of sale shopping.

This baby of mine is one active little thing, kicking away on my bladder. The most activity is in the evenings and I'm almost sure I felt a kick from the outside of my tummy this week. Though it was a one off and I'm not entirely sure. We're definitely getting nearer, but whenever I try to get my husband to feel the 'big' kicks he can't feel anything. They must just feel strong to me, yet not quite making it to the outside world yet. Due to the kicking on my bladder I am starting to get slightly more uncomfortable, though I'm fully aware this is nothing compared to what's to come. I've generally slept well this week and I'm still not needing to get up in the night for the toilet. Long may that last!

I've been suffering from one cold related illness to the other for the past few weeks, it's more of an annoyance than anything else. I'm struggling to breathe through my nose by the evenings, have lost hearing in my right ear thanks to some kind of head cold, keep having mini nose bleeds, have a constant cough and also had tonsillitis last week. In fact I was randomly sick again this week, probably related to the cold symptoms but it took my by surprise. Need to up my vitamin C intake I think.

Does anyone have any pregnancy friendly tips or tricks for treating head cold symptoms?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  1. How lovely and the 20 week scan is such a joy yet worry too. They found a small problem with our thirds foot on that scan and when he was born they were right was amazing. Wish I had advice on the cold but sadly I sniffed my way through #sundaybest

  3. I booked an early gender scan today for 17+4, not sure of your reasons yet (looking forward to the reveal) but ours was because a few of my friends didn't even find out at the 20 week scan as it's not definite they will tell you! Love your blog, keep it up! Xx
