ICELAND DAY ONE: Flying, Reykjavik Harbour and Our Airbnb Apartment

I've gone back and forth with ways I wanted to document our first family holiday abroad and have finally decided on doing a sort of photo album for each day we were in Iceland. That way there won't be a ridiculous number of photos in one post! Our first day of the holiday started nice and early at 3am, as we got up to drive to Manchester Airport. The journey up was quiet and we arrived just under the recommended two hours before our flight. We had organised for the car to be parked in the on-site short stay car parking via Purple Parking. It was the easiest experience - we drove in, parked the car and walked into Terminal 1.

We flew with Easy Jet and my husband had decided to book Isabella a seat too. Up until they're two you don't have to, as they can sit on your lap throughout the flight, but it did make things easier having an extra seat (and hand luggage item). There was more space and Isabella loved sitting in her own seat throughout the flight. She watched Peter Rabbit, ate breakfast, read her magazine/books, played with play-doh, wandered up and down the plane aisle, looked out the window, played with stickers and generally sucked all of the energy out of us! She was really well behaved, but being on high alert and getting up at 3am meant we were both so tired by 10am.

Once we landed into Keflavik Airport in Iceland we picked up the hire car from Budget and headed off to Reykjavik. On the way in we stopped off at a Bonus supermarket and that's where we realised quite how expensive Iceland is. We got a few snacks and it cost over £70! Gulp.

Arriving at our airbnb was so exciting, the views over the sea and mountains were simply stunning. It was on the sixth floor, with two balconies, one bedroom and open planning kitchen/dining/living area. Perfect for a toddler to run around! We settled into the apartment, then went for a wander down on the seafront. The snow covered mountains in the background made the most beautiful backdrop.

Onto Day 1 photo album...
(the square photos were taken on my phone, hence the lower quality)
Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  9. Aww it brings back memories for me. We went pre-BattleKid for a long weekend in 2009 and it was the best weekend away we've had. Iceland was expensive so though not as much as Norway as we found out 2 years later!
