TODDLER BEDROOM: Creating a Gallery Wall with Desenio

I have wanted a gallery wall in our house for as long as I can remember, but I have issue with commitment when it comes to putting things on the walls. For years my husband and I rented and although we could put pictures up on the walls I was always too scared we'd cause damage. When we bought our current house I was looking forward to making it our own, decorating throughout and making it a home. Over the past few years we've gradually decorated the kitchen, utility room, bedrooms and bathroom (usually with the pressure of having a baby on the way!). The latest room we decorated was Isabella's 'big girl' room, just prior to Poppy's arrival - you can see her whole bedroom here.

Isabella's bedroom was the perfect room to add a gallery wall because she has two large walls with no tall furniture or windows on. But I was so nervous about committing to putting picture hangers into our newly wallpapered walls - what if our ideas didn't look good? While browsing the internet for prints, posters and inspiration I came across Desenio and felt so inspired. Luckily on their website they have a Gallery Wall Inspiration page filled with different combinations of hanging frames, just what I needed! It really helped me envisage what the gallery wall would look like prior to putting it together and therefore what size posters and prints we needed to get.
Desenio have an incredible range of posters, frames and prints for every room in the house. Their website is very easy to navigate, so you can quickly find the type of prints you are looking for. Just some of the categories are: photographs, fashion, nature, quotes, kitchen, kids, floral, graphical, nautical, illustrations and motivational. There is also a fantastic range of frames, including white, gold, black and copper, with the sizes matching up with the prints for sale perfectly. This, again, makes shopping from Desenio an easy option because everything you need to create a gallery wall is in one place.

When it came to searching for prints to go in Isabella's new bedroom I headed straight to the Kids Posters section on their website. I scrolled through animals, maps, quotes, cartoons and illustrations for hours, going backwards and forwards just to make sure I had seen all of the possibilities. After knowing what was on offer I started to think about how the gallery wall would look - how would the frames be put together on the wall? Using the Gallery Wall Inspiration part of their website I was most drawn to one of the medium gallery wall templates (the one with a 50x70 print in the middle), but felt the need to change it slightly as we had a big wall to play with. When it came to coming up with the final arrangement I looked at the prints I had fallen in love with, the size of the space we had to work with and then drew it out to scale on paper. This process meant that when it came to ordering the prints I was confident in my decisions and I wasn't going to be faced with a random collection of posters once the order arrived.
The prints and sizes I chose for Isabella's bedroom were:

I then choose the White Wood Frames with Plexiglass and because you can buy exactly the right sized frame for the posters from Desenio it makes creating a gallery wall very easy. No shopping around or struggling to find the right sized frame and the frames are a really lovely quality. Plexiglass makes them very lightweight and the perfect option for a child's room because there's no risk of glass breaking.

When the posters and frames arrived I was impressed with how securely they were packaged, with all the posters in a cardboard tube and the frames secured with bubble wrap. The first job was to unroll the posters and remove the white sheet inside each frame. We then used these sheets to help lay out the gallery wall plan on the floor (remembering to compensate for the frame width too); you could also carefully stick them to the wall where you want to put up the frames to help work out the spacing etc. Once we were happy we transferred the gallery wall up onto the wall, a much quicker job than anticipated because of the previous planning and how lightweight the frames are.
I'm so happy with the finished results using the posters from Desenio; the online shopping experience, inspiration and resources on their website is outstanding. Isabella loves her new gallery wall too and I guess that's really the most important thing. She chats away to the rabbit and requests melon most mornings now!
Which is your favourite poster?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  9. What an amazing wall! I love it. My favourite has to be the balloon picture. We have a gallery wall in our front room which was a bit painful to create. After I gathered the plethora of different but complementary photo frames I too cut out paper to match the size and played around with sticking them in the wall. Really helped with the layout. However Husband was not pleased with how many hooks he had to put up!
