REVIEW: Diono Quantum Classic Pushchair - from baby to toddler mode in just four clicks

The world of pushchairs, travel systems and prams is a big one with so many different features and designs available. In February of this year Diono launched an exciting new pushchair, the Quantum Classic (£675), which has all the practical features you could ever imagine along with added luxurious touches. The exclusive tailoring to the air filled all-terrain wheels it is the pushchair designed for both city and country life. As someone who lives in the countryside, but often visits towns/cities for family days out, it has all the features possibly needed to make the ride as comfortable and smooth as possible.

When opening the box to this pushchair the first thing I noticed was the outstanding quality of the fabric lining the chair and hood, a beautiful dark grey/charcoal fabric, whilst the bumper bar and handle are in a perfectly matching dark chestnut leatherette. Another aspect of the Quantum Classic I noticed straight away was how substantial the frame is, which does make it more on the weighty side. It is something to bear in mind, especially if lifting it in and out of a car boot a lot. Luckily Diono have considered this and attached a shoulder strap, making carrying the main frame around a lot easier.
There are so many clever features that make this pushchair really feel that extra bit special. Below are my favourite features, which I think you'll love too...

An inbuilt detachable drinks holder - the addition of a drinks holder on a pushchair isn't necessarily revolutionary, but the placing of this one means that it is well out of the way from little kicking legs and reaching arms. There is a place to attach the drinks holder (which is included) on to the side of the handle, so it is in easy reach for you and the fact that it is detachable is very convenient too.
The extra large eclipse canopy - When you extend the canopy out it just seems to keep on going and once you think it's fully extended you find the extra sun cover that flips out! There are so many reasons that a large hood is useful; the main ones for us have been providing a dark place for Poppy to sleep on days out, protecting her from the sun/snow/rain and for a good old game of peek-a-boo. When the summer sun comes it will be such a peace of mind to know that Poppy is fully protected and the magnetic window flap means I am always able to see her.
The ability to grow and change - In four quick snaps it changes from a carriage cot to an extra large toddler seat. This has proven to be so useful for our days out, as Poppy starts in the carriage cot and then when Isabella's little legs are tired we change it into a toddler seat and put Poppy in a baby carrier. The clips were initially a bit hard to find, but that is because of the sleek design that means they are neatly hidden. Once you know where they are it is very straight forward to change between the two seat styles. This flexibility is so convenient, as we don't have a double pushchair and it means that Isabella doesn't feel left out when Poppy's in the pushchair. This also makes the Quantum Classic the perfect option for first time parents, as it grows and changes from newborn through to 22kg (around the age your child will be walking around by themselves). It is also possible to attach certain car seats to the frame, including Maxi Cosi, Cybex and Nuna.
Air filled rear wheels - Prior to using the Diono Quantum Classic I hadn't tried a pushchair with air filled tyres, but it really does make for a smoother ride. Also, fixed into the basket there is an air pump for you to pump up the types as and when is needed. It's these little details that Diono haven't failed to overlook.
Extra large basket - We all know that when you become a parent you seem to sign up to carrying your whole house around with you; how can such little people need so many things? The extra large basket on the Quantum Classic is so big it can actually fit a cabin size suitcase in! That's plenty of room for a changing bag, shopping bags and any other child related paraphernalia you find yourself carrying around. Although the basket is such a generous size it can sometimes be a bit tricky to get larger items into it. The frame of the pushchair and positioning of the chair/carriage cot means that sometimes it is necessary to put the larger items in before putting the chair/cot on. We often carry around a travel potty for Isabella and although there is ample room for it in the basket we have to remember to put it in before clicking the chair on. Although this is a little inconvenient, I much prefer it to not having the space in the first place.
Six handle heights - You can easily change the height of the handle between six different positions, so that you are standing in a comfortable position when pushing your child. My husband really noticed the difference with this feature, as he was able to stand much more upright. It also meant that the handle could be low enough for Isabella to 'help' push Poppy along, a responsibility she loves having.
One hand fold - 'Juggling act' is parenting in a nutshell, so being able to close and lock the main frame of the pushchair with one hand is a very useful feature. Anything that makes packing away after a day out quicker is a winner with me!
Quantum Classic Footmuff (available to purchase separately for £70) - Diono, when are you going to make these for adults? This is the most luxurious footmuff I've ever come across, with matching luxurious fabric to the pushchair, the softest full plush seat lining you'll ever feel and a centre zip for easy access. The top panel can also be removed for the warmer days, while the super soft lining will ensure your child is cosy and comfortable.
One step brake -  The large easily accessible one step brake makes quickly stopping the pushchair very easy, without scuffing your shoes or stubbing your toes.
Forward or parent facing options - The toddler seat can either be facing the world or towards yourself, which is ideal as your child grows. At the moment I have Poppy facing me (though I'm sure she'd much prefer to see the world!) and Isabella is much more interested in see what everyone else is doing.
Overall I am very impressed with not only the clever design features, but also the luxurious touches and longevity of use. It is ideal for first time parents, as well as parents with more than one child because it adapts between ages so easily and quickly. The stylish finishes and air filled tyres make it ideal for both city and country life and the various extras included (luxury mattress for the carriage cot, apron/rain cover, air pump, safety strap and drinks holder) really do make it feel like an extra special purchase.

What are the features you mostly look for in a pushchair?

  10. Gorgeous pushchair, it sounds perfect in every way. Shame about the price tag - completely worth it, I’m sure, but very much out of my budget this time around.

  11. That looks a fabulous pram, but I think they are generally over priced. I needed a small mortgage for a decent twin one!! The way you can change it so easily is great though

  21. This has literally everything I look for in a pram. We are 'baby' planning at the moment and my daughters old pram is no longer with us. I'll definitely be looking into this one next time we need one. I love the canopy and the thing I always need is an extra large basket like this one. I love that it grows with them too and hooray to the cup holder! x

  23. We used to have a Bugaboo, but when we moved back to Edinburgh we swapped for a Maclaren because the streets are quite narrow here and also you usually need to fold your buggy to get on a bus so needed something that folded up quick and small.
