CHILDREN: Making more Ethical Clothing Choices

CHILDREN: Making more Ethical Clothing Choices

Making ethical, as well as more sustainable and fair, clothing choices is becoming something that a lot of parents are considering when purchasing clothes for their little ones. We are all more aware of the impact our lifestyle over the past decades has had on the planet, so taking action isn't so much of a choice anymore than a necessity. This paired with the desire to make more ethical and fair purchases can leave parents wondering where to shop. Little Green Radicals is a brand I have spoken about on here for years now, as each season they bring out a stunning range of clothing for babies, toddlers and children. Their designs, patterns and colours all work together so beautifully, but the ethos behind the brand is what really makes it stand out.

Little Green Radicals have always used 100% Fairtrade cotton to create their pieces, which not only ensures that the cotton farmers receive a fair and stable price for their cotton but also provide their families with much needed stability. Choosing to buy clothing made with Fairtrade cotton means that you are supporting the protection of worker's rights, the environment, payment of Fairtrade Minimum Price and an additional Fairtrade Premium which is always invested back into community projects.

As well as using Fairtrade cotton, Little Green Radicals also use organic cotton, which is much softer than conventional cotton making it perfect for our little ones skin. Using organic cotton benefits both the cotton providers and the environment, as harmful chemicals aren't being used. Due to the fact that the cotton hasn't been broken down by harsh chemicals means that it is more suitable for children with allergies or eczema too. As Poppy has eczema on the back of her neck and generally has much more sensitive skin we've found that Little Green Radicals clothing has never aggravated it or caused her any discomfort.

More recently they have started on a journey to become plastic free, which is a change I think we all want more companies to make. As the Little Green Radicals clothes are made in India, they have a long way to travel and without some kind of protection around them the amount of damaged clothing items would be far too high. This is why they have come up with biodegradable bags, which last long enough for us to receive our clothes looking pristine but that can also be thrown on your compost heap or placed in your food waste bin. They are made from plants not petrol, so when their new season comes out they will be making such vital steps towards being completely plastic free.

But back to their current Spring/Summer '19 range, which is not only filled with all the bright colours and patterns but is also inspired by Wanderlust. You can expect Rainbow Lions, Wild Animals, Hot Air Balloons and Spring Blooms. Poppy is wearing their Emerald Explorer Dungarees (£28) with the Golden Ducks Baby Body 2 Pack Set (£20), which coordinate perfectly together. The dungarees look incredibly comfortable and give Poppy that freedom to move that she so desperately needs. Isabella is wearing their Emerald Run Free Dress (£32) along with Duck Egg Blue Leggings (£12), for a 'matching but not quite matching' look with Poppy. Both outfits are so perfect for summer, but they can also wear a long sleeved top underneath and wear them into autumn too.
Which are your favourite pieces from the new Little Green Radicals collection?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)
