ISABELLA: 9 Month Update

Isabella is now 9 months, which I find completely mind blowing and scary to think how quickly this time has gone. So much has changed since my last update on Isabella, developmentally it's been such a busy few months. We seem to go through quieter periods where she practises the new learnt skills and then busier times when she learns one skill after another. We've just had a very busy time, so I thought it was the perfect time to update you.

Probably the biggest change is that Isabella can now crawl...pretty quickly too! She first learnt to crawl when she was 6 months, which was more of a pull along the floor. She could move her legs correctly but not lift one arm up after the other in order to crawl quickly. Within a couple of weeks she had learnt to crawl properly and we've not looked back, in fact I can't remember what it was like to have a baby who stayed still! It all happened so quickly, we went from rocking on her knees to fast crawling within 3 weeks. Baby proofing the house had to be done almost overnight and is constantly changing as she learns new skills.
Being able to crawl was quickly followed by learning to pull herself up, originally in her cot then the sofa, coffee table and the latest addition is being able to go up stairs! I can't believe how quickly it all changes, that was all learnt within a week, resulting in quickly lowering her cot, further baby proofing and ensuring all doors are kept shut. It's not an easy task moving around our house anymore! The thing I've found the hardest to protect Isabella from is the radiators. I'm saying 'hot' and 'no' when she goes near them, irregardless of whether they are hot or not, and she is beginning to understand. But they're such a vast space that it's been hard to ensure all pipes/radiators are out of reach.

Sleepwise it is generally pretty consistent, Isabella goes to bed at 6pm and sleeps through until 12am. She has recently got a lot better at self settling herself, well using the 'calm waves' noise on the baby monitor to help her get to sleep again. I used to feed her at 12am, 3am and 5am but was keen to try and reduce this because I'm conscious of going back to work in the not too distant future. I know things change all the time, however if I try to get into a good routine before returning to work then it can only be a good thing. Also, I've recently been feeling really exhausted, not tired as such, just completely drained.
Though it is exhausting Isabella is being so much fun at the moment, especially as she can play and interact a bit now. It's so lovely building towers for her to knock down, tickling her until she giggles, rolling a ball for her to crawl after, stacking cups to make a tall tower and chasing her through the tunnel. Our days pass so quickly now and I love nothing more than a day at home with her!

What was your little ones favourite milestone?

  3. ooohh so cute! Maddie learnt how to roll over a couple weeks ago and now she won't stop! She will be 6 months next week but it doesn't look like she will be an early crawler. Hopefully she will hold off :P
