TOYS: Little Tikes Lil Ocean Explorers

Now that Isabella is on the move finding toys that keep her occupied, entertained and encourage development can be a challenge. She rarely stays still for long enough! However one range that has been a big hit is the Little Tikes Lil' Ocean Explorers. We have the Dunk 'n Juggle Seal* (£19.99) and Push 'n Glow Fish* (£8.99), both of which have become firm favourites for Isabella. The whole Lil' Ocean Explorers range is designed to provide fun, active play while supporting babies development. Little Tikes have clearly stated which stage of mobility their Lil' Ocean Explorers toys are aimed at, from sitting to crawling to standing. This is such a helpful feature as it allows parents to easily identify fun toys that their baby will enjoy and learn from.
Isabella has been crawling over to the Dunk 'n Juggle Seal in our living room so much recently, which has prompted me to write this post. It is aimed at babies who can sit up and crawl, so ideal for Isabella's level of ability. The concept is to post one of three provided balls through the hoop, at which point the seal starts clapping and playing music. The seal then releases the ball and it flies down the ramp and off across the floor, therefore encouraging babies to crawl and get it.
When we first put this out for Isabella to play with she wasn't sure what to do or how to engage with it, consequently not particularly playing with it. However after demonstrating what to do a few times she begun to be a lot more interested in playing with it by herself. To begin with she couldn't release the ball from her hand in order to set off the seal clapping, but it surprised me how quickly she grasped the concept of putting the ball in the hoop. Then one day she crawled over to the Seal, DROPPED a ball into the hoop and smiled from ear to ear when the Seal clapped and released the ball - she couldn't have been happier with herself and I couldn't have been prouder! I got a bit emotional I have to admit...I blame post pregnancy hormones. Since then she's been playing with the Dunk 'n Juggle Seal so much and I've loved watching her skills develop through play.
Another popular toy choice over the past few weeks has been the Push 'n Glow Fish, mainly due to the light up cheeks and the fact that Isabella can make them light up herself. It didn't take long before she realised she could grab the handle and it would play fun sounds and light up, the fact the handle has been designed to be small enough for little hands is perfect. She hasn't quite mastered the art of crawling along with it yet, though that doesn't hinder her enjoyment of the Push 'n Glow Fish.

Which toys has your little one been really enjoying recently?

  1. Oh my gosh, they're so cute!! I especially love the seal and will have to look out for it. My local primary has a seal called Floppy as its mascot, and my daughter is transfixed by the photo every time she sees it - this way she could have her very own Floppy. :) #binkylinky
