FAMILY DAY OUT: Marwell Zoo in Hampshire

While we were down in Hampshire on holiday we visited Marwell Zoo, which is a 140-acre zoo perfect for a fun filled family day out. They have a fantastic range of animals, including giraffes, hippos, tigers, snow leopards and my personal favourite...penguins! There are also five adventure playgrounds, road and rail trains, extensive gardens to explore, gift shop, cafes, picnic areas and Wild Explorers. Plenty for children to discover, while the fact they have baby-changing facilities and an area to heat up baby food makes it the perfect place to visit with a baby too. Fun fact - decades and decades ago my grandparents were going to buy Marwell house before it was converted into a zoo!

^All dressed up and ready for the zoo!^

We hadn't taken Isabella to a zoo/wildlife park prior to visiting Marwell Zoo and she was so interested in all of the animals, especially the Meerkats. She kept pointing at them when they'd disappear down a hole, so cute! Throughout the Marwell Zoo there are plenty of opportunities for children to see the animals without having to be lifted up or even leave the pushchair. There were glass panels, steps and barred walkways. These features enabled Isabella to really get the most out of our day at the zoo

Throughout Marwell Zoo there are various animal stamps (like the one above) you can collect as you're going round, as part of their Explorers Trial. This is such a fun activity for children and a great way of encouraging younger children to recognise different animals.
We had such a fun day at Marwell Zoo and can't recommend it highly enough if you're ever in the area.

What's your favourite family day out?

Feel free to leave a comment :)

  4. oh we love visiting zoo's. The one in Sydney and Melbourne are our favorites so far! I love it when they have "Display Glass" so that little ones can still see the animals.
Love the picture of your daughter with the Giraffe height chart - really does show how tall Giraffes can get :)
