DITL: Weekend, Sealife Centre and Meal Out

I love watching 'Day In The Life' (DITL) videos on YouTube, it's so interesting seeing what other people get up to in their day to day life. If I think back to what our days were like a couple of months ago they were so different to now. Isabella napped at a different time, therefore the order we'd do things would be different. DITL are the perfect way to capture what life is like at various stages, so I thought I'd start sharing some of our days. Nursery days, work days, days off and weekends - they're all so different.

Today's DITL was a weekend day, so my husband was off work, the weather was miserable, so we headed off to the Sealife Centre in Birmingham. When the weather is horrible the first thing that pops into my mind is soft play, but after picking up a 50% off entry to the Sealife Centre we decided to mix things up and visit the fish!

6.20am - Isabella woke us both up and so the day began. As soon as I've woken up I'll change the noise on Isabella's baby monitor to Classical Canon in D and put the lightshow on. This usually gives us five more minutes to wake up properly before going through to Isabella. I'll then go through and bring Isabella into our bedroom where I'll feed her. This is really the only time of the day I feed her now, so it's a special bonding time.
7.30am - Isabella and I then went downstairs for breakfast, while my husband slept for a bit longer. I made a smoothie to share with Isabella, today it was berry and banana. She had kiwi, blueberries, smoothie bite, homemade jammy oat bar and some mini shredded wheat in full fat cow's milk. Typically she'll have a large breakfast, then a much smaller lunch and dinner.
8.15am - My husband took Isabella through to the living room for a quick morning play while I started getting ready. I love that at the weekend I can get ready at my own pace and usually without the distraction of a one year old! They then came upstairs, so I could get Isabella ready and my husband could get himself ready for the day. I choose Isabella's outfit, took our Baby Style photos and got her dressed. We can now take Isabella's outfit photo in one take, in fact we have to as otherwise she just wanders off!

9.45am - Time to leave the house. Isabella wanted to do a bit of chalking before getting in the car, of course!
10am - We were booked into the Sealife Centre for 11am and it's about an hour from where we live, making it a relatively early time to leave the house at the weekend. Isabella napped on the journey while I caught up with social media and my husband drove. It's always so hard to find time to blog/update social media/publicise blog posts now that I'm a parent, so car journeys are ideal.

11am - The Sealife Centre was so busy, which didn't suit Isabella's pretty slow pace at walking. However, we had a lovely time wandering around all of the various fish tanks, penguins and jellyfish. Isabella was fascinated by all of the fish, lights and so wanted to get into the tanks to "splash splash"! It didn't take us very long to get around the whole centre, about 50 minutes, so I'm glad we had 50% off vouchers. Otherwise it would have cost around £40 for the three of us, quite a lot for 50 minutes of entertainment.
12am - We wandered into the centre of Birmingham, through the Mailbox and into the new Grand Central train station. There are so many fantastic places to eat in Grand Central, not to mention the great shopping - well worth a visit. We finally decided to eat at handmade burger co. - roll on huge burgers, mountains of chips, jalapeno coleslaw and oreo milkshakes. The food babies were real.
4pm - We headed home with a very tired little girl, who then napped in the car. We then gave Isabella her dinner, aubergine and lentil curry (see the recipe here), had a short play time before winding down for the day.
6pm - Bath time. My husband usually baths Isabella while I take my make up off, tidy up and sort out her bedroom ready for bed time. She loves splashing around at bath time and trying to eat the bubbles - anyone elses child do this?!
6.45pm - Bed time. We get Isabella into her pyjamas, blow dry her hair, read a story, give her a bottle of milk and have lots of cuddles. She was exhausted after all of the walking around the Sealife Centre and fell asleep on me. Such a rare and precious moment these days.

7pm - After Isabella has gone to sleep at the weekends we usually catch up on a tv series, have a glass of wine and I try not to work/blog. We're currently watching a gripping, gritty police drama called The Tunnel on Sky, which I can't recommend enough.
10pm - Our bed time, with the hope Isabella will sleep through the night again.

What's your favourite family day out at the weekends?

  8. It's looks like you all had a lovely time! Believe it or not, we have yet to make it to a sea life centre 😮 - it's something I really want to do, but can't quite bring myself to make the London tube trip. We might try out Brighton instead when we are next down. Thank you for linking up to the #DreamTeam X
