Remembering special days over years and years can be difficult, a lot of us don't have time to look through photo albums to find certain photos and reflect on the days that mean so much to you. This year was my first Mother's Day as a mummy, so I really wanted to capture it. As a parent, time is limited so I wanted to create a journal I could quickly add to each year. I love the idea of recording every single Mother's Day all in one place, but this could be done for any other special day that happens yearly (birthdays/Christmas etc).
What you'll need:
Notebook - mine is this one from Liberty
Washi/Fabric Tape - I used this Purple Yellow Flowers fabric tape from eBay
Scissors
Small photographs - I order these mini retro prints from Huggle Up
Pen
Anything else special from the day, e.g. reciepts/leaflets
What to do:
1) Decide what your special day keepsake book is going to be focusing on. I wanted to create a Mother's Day journal where I can record every single Mother's Day all in one place. Other ideas are: Father's Day, birthdays, anniverssaries - any special day that happens each year.
2) Write the day and year at the top of the first page (or you could leave the very first page blank, so that you can design a 'front cover' to your keepsake journal). I wish I could do fancy calligraphy at this point, but I went for bubble writing circa 2005.
3) Then arrange the photo's and any receipts/leaflets etc. you want to include on the page. Make sure you leave enough room inbetween each item to be able to write what you did on the day. Depending on how many photos you want to include will depend on how many pages you want to take up.
4) Once you're happy with the layout stick the photos/items down with the washi/fabric tape.
5) Write around the photos what you did on the day, any special moments or memories you want to remember. This could be quotes, places you visited, gifts you received etc.
6) Then pop your journal somewhere safe ready to record next year's special day in it.
I can't wait to build my Mother's Day journal up over the years, it will be such a special book to look back though and reminsce. It took me about 5 minutes to put together the page, making this a quick and easy way of recording such special days in your life. It would also make a lovely and very thoughtful gift for a loved one - why not start a Father's Day keepsake journal ready to be completed after the day this year?
What's your favourite way to record special days in your life?
