TODDLER: Le Toy Van Lilys Cottage

As toddler's get older they begin to enter the world of play in the small world. It's a fun and imaginative world where lots can be learnt! A doll's house is perfect for supporting children in entering and enjoying small world play because it provides them with a house more suited to their size.

Le Toy Van are well known for their fantastic wooden toy ranges, all of which are of outstanding quality and beautifully crafted. Their doll's houses are simply beautiful, with a range of sizes, price points and designs. Something for everyone! We were kindly sent Lily's Cottage (£69.95) and I couldn't have been more excited. Doll's houses remind me so much of my childhood, as I would spend hours playing with my cousin's hand-me-down one. Lily's Cottage is perfect for anyone who wants a doll's house, but doesn't have the space for the larger ones. Some can have four plus floors, but this compact two floor option can neatly fit into a relatively small space. Having said this there is still plenty of room inside Lily's Cottage to set out a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.
The whole of the front opens up to reveal a downstairs space, where we set up the kitchen and living room. Both the window and front door also open and shut, creating a real life like experience for children. Lily's Cottage comes with an array of wooden furniture, including a cooker, sofa, bed, toilet, sink, table, chairs, teapot etc. This means that once the doll's house is set up it is ready to play with. The only thing you'll need to get are some little people to live in the house, which Le Toy Van do sell separately.
You can lift the front half of the roof up to reveal the top floor of the cottage. This can be a bit tricky for children to do independently because one half of the roof flip all the way over to lay on the other half of the roof and it needs a bit of moving about to do so. To overcome this you could always leave the top floor open during the day and just lift the roof back over when it's tidy up time.
Lily's Cottage was relatively easy to put together, with no tools needed. However I would say it is a two man job, I initially tried to do it by myself but couldn't hold the walls up while sliding it all into place. I'd also recommend double checking you've got all of the walls the right way around, it is probably my lack of flat pack skills but I originally tried to put it together with a wall the wrong way around - doh!
This doll's house, or any of the other lovely wooden toys Le Toy Van have to offer, would make special Christmas gifts this year. A doll's house is a present that will last and be enjoyed for years to come.

What's on your little ones Christmas list this year?

Feel free to leave a comment :)
