PREGNANCY #2: 18 Week Update

This week has flown by, as we were back to the nursery/work routine. It's been exhausting getting up at 5.50am again, but Isabella has loved being back at nursery and seeing her friends. In all honesty a lot of this week I've forgotten I'm even pregnant, which seems to be a reoccurring theme in this pregnancy. Is that a second/third/fourth pregnancy thing? I just don't have much time to concentrate on 'being pregnant'! When I was pregnant with Isabella I would obsessively check all of the pregnancy apps I had downloaded, yet this time I'll probably check them once or twice a week.

Probably the most exciting part of this week has been really feeling the baby kicking around in there. I'm now 100% sure I'm feeling baby kicks and it's incredible. I'm yet to feel the kicks on the outside of my bump yet, it will be such a special moment when it finally happens. Again, I have spent some of this week worrying that my bump has disappeared and whether it is big enough for 18 weeks. After speaking to fellow mums-to-be on Twitter it seems to be quite a common worry, which provided reassurance. I love how supportive the online pregnancy world can be.

As the new year started I began really thinking about when to go off on maternity leave, which is a decision I always find extremely hard. I know that when it come to returning to work after maternity leave I'll be glad if I've worked as near to my due date as possible. However I worked up until 37 weeks with Isabella and the hour long commute became a real challenge by then. I was exhausted, struggled to physically fit behind the wheel but then I was bored as soon as I stopped working. I promised myself that if I was ever lucky enough to be pregnant again I would go off at 36 weeks or around then.

This time around 36 weeks lands on the May bank holiday week and because I only work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I would actually only be working two days that week. This makes me think I should try and work that and then go off at 37 weeks. Who knows? I'm indecisive at the best of times!

When did you go on maternity leave?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  2. I love reading pregnancy updates.
I went on maternity leave at 30 weeks with my second but only because I suffer with Obstetric Cholestasis, a liver disorder in pregnancy. I knew that I was going to have to attend 2-3 appointments at the hospital per week and my boss at the time was a moody thing as it is.

  3. Love pregnancy updates! I think I went at 36.5 weeks with my second and I was ready. More uncomfy second time around. She came at 39+5 so I had some time when my daughter went to nursery which was lovely. I so miss the kicks! xx #twinklytuesday

  4. I tried to make it to a week before I was due, but each time (twice), something told me to move it further back. And each time, I delivered before my original date:) #twinklytuesday

  5. I had to stop 6 weeks before with both my boys due to pre-eclampsia. My second was 3 weeks early so I was pleased I finished earlier. Thanks for linking with us at #ablogginggoodtime

  6. Gorgeous bump! I left at 31 weeks because a lot of holiday use, I'd saved it up deliberately so I didn't have to work over the summer. My actual maternity leave started at 36 weeks. I then took the year and then became self employed so it didn't matter that I had started it early. It's exhausting being pregnant so think about what's best for you and your family! :)

  7. Oh I am jealous and I only gave birth 4 months ago! Those kicks...ahhh so lush! I finished at 35 weeks this time just because I couldn't be bothered to work any further! I used holiday though for a couple of the weeks. ANd yes...first time round you note absolutely everything but second time you just can't! It's the same with the baby - I forget how many exact weeks he is...it#s just based on nearly such and such months!! Thanks so much for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday
