PREGNANCY #2: 25 Week Update

I had to check back to last week to remind myself how many weeks pregnant I actually am! We have had the most amazing week away on holiday in Iceland, so I'm a bit all over the place as we try to organise our lives again. Pregnancy wise this week has been one filled with worry, something I've not overly experienced this time around. It has been because we were going abroad, away from the NHS and midwives I know. I was scared something might happen and I wouldn't be able to easily get the help needed or that the flight would cause some kind of complication.

Monitoring her movements, concentrating on every twinge and just generally being hyper-sensitive to everything pregnancy related has been how I've spent my week. Luckily there wasn't anything to worry about too much and flying was ok, if not a little bit strange. I kept feeling a popping feeling in my bump when we took off and landed, not pleasant but not too uncomfortable either.

As we did so much walking around Iceland I struggled with a trapped nerve in my lower back again, something that only seems to crop up when I walk for any length of time. It was so painful one of the days I could barely stand up and would yelp in pain if I did. Again, luckily every morning it would start to feel better so it didn't keep getting worse and worse. It seems to have gone now and I'm taking it as the perfect excuse to put my feet up!

Heartburn has been really troubling me during the latter part of the week, making me feel really sick. Around 5pm it starts to crop its ugly head and doesn't go until I wake up in the morning, consequently I'm having a lot of earlier nights just to try and escape it. I can't work out if its something I'm eating that's triggering it or whether its just going to be one of those things this pregnancy. Either way I'll be glad to see the back of it.

On to more exciting symptoms of this week, colostrum has started to make an appearance. It makes me feel so lucky that my body is getting ready to feed another little human being. I breastfed Isabella (then went onto combination feeding) and would love to do the same this time around, though I know how difficult it can be so want to be prepared. It still makes it feel so much more real now that my body is physically preparing for the arrival of our second daughter.

Feel free to leave a comment  - I love reading every single one :)

  1. Awwww it's so exciting. Heartburn is a pain. I heard Love Hearts are good for it. Thankfully, I've only had it for the last couple of weeks. #MaternityMondays

  2. I remember the aches and pains of second and third trimester pregnancy too well. Can't believe you've already got collostrum! I had so much trouble with my supply but managed to build it up and was happy I did. Hopefully, mybody will remember to produce a lot when baby #2 comes around! #twinklytuesday http://italianbelly.com

  3. Wow Iceland, how lovely! We had a holiday when I was around 25 weeks, it's nice to get away and spend some time as a family before all hell breaks loose...the calm before the storm if you like! xx #twinklytuesday

  4. I lose tracks of the weeks too, it's only when I get an email notification each new week and then I'm always surprised how far ahead I am haha! xx #maternitymondays

  5. According to the National Health Service, UK, only about 1 in every 20 births actually takes place on the due date. A baby who is born before 37 weeks after conception is considered pre-term (premature) and babies born after the 43 week mark are considered post-mature.

  6. Pregnancy the second time round is so different isn't it! In some ways easier, in other ways harder. It sounds like you are doing really well. So impressed that you managed to get away and that you did so much walking. Definitely time to start taking it easy :-) Lovely update post, thanks for sharing it on #MarvMondays. Emily
