ICELAND DAY TWO: Golden Circle, Waterfalls and Geysers

On our second day in Iceland we checked the rather erratic Icelandic weather and decided to head off on the Golden Circle route. Driving in Iceland is very easy, there are few road options and little traffic. The Golden Circle road trip is around 300km and takes you to the most stunning natural wonders, including waterfalls and geysers. As we had hired a car we drove ourselves round (well my husband drove and I may have taken a few short naps, flying with a toddler was exhausting!), but there were plenty of tour companies offering tours too.

You stop off at various places along the route, many of which also have café/toilet facilities. There really isn't much else on the whole Golden Circle route, Iceland truly is rural. The geysers were incredible, what a force of nature! We only had to wait a few minutes and one went off, sending an eggy whiff out with it (thank goodness morning sickness has settled down). The Gullfoss Waterfall was also a breath-taking sight, we were lucky enough to see a rainbow coming out of the waterfall too.

Despite only stopping for 20-30 minutes at each place it was still a long day on the road, but well worth it!
