BABY: Summer Infant Wide View 2.0 Digital Video Monitor Review

When it comes to your little ones keeping them safe is a priority, even if they will insist on climbing things quadruple their height or putting everything in their mouths. Babies and toddler's certainly do keep us parents on our toes, always testing the boundaries of safety and rules. This is why being able to keep an eye on them, even when you're not physically with them, is so important. Back when I was pregnant with Isabella I remember browsing the range of baby monitors at the time and settling on a video one, purely for peace of mind. I'm a worrier by nature, so I knew being able to see my baby sleeping would be so reassuring. Fast forward 2.5 years and we're still using the video monitor with Isabella now, despite her moving to her 'big girl' bedroom. In fact because she is now in a bed I've found it even more important to have the video monitor, as she's able to get out and I like to know she's safe. But this left us looking for another video monitor for Poppy's bedroom.

Summer Infant instantly stood out as a brand that had an incredible range of baby monitors available, many of which are new additions to their collection. I know that a video monitor isn't for all parents, so I thought I'd share some of the audio options from Summer Infant too. They have Babble Band Wearable Audio Monitor, which is ideal if you're needing a hands-free monitor that you can carry around the house with you. It is a bit like a watch, as in the monitor straps around your wrist, allowing you to hear if your baby stirs while getting things done. Summer Infant also have a Baby Wave Deluxe Digital Audio Monitor, offering crystal clear audio, nightlight, two-way communication and on-screen temperature display. Again, offering that peace of mind for parents who prefer to opt for just audio.

However, personally I prefer to go for a video monitor and Summer Infant have a very comprehensive range, many of which are new to their collection. There are six different video monitors to choose from, ranging in prices, size, features and number of cameras...

The Panorama Digital Video Monitor (£149.99) allows you to pan, tilt and zoom the camera and with a large 5" colour LCD screen you'll have no problem keeping an eye on your little one.

The Wide View 2.0 Duo Digital Video Monitor (£179.99) enables you to see 3 times as much of your baby's bedroom because it has a wide angled lens camera and a 5" colour flat-screen monitor. In this bundle you get two cameras, which is ideal if you have siblings as you'll only need one monitor for both rooms. If you have one child you could have one camera in their bedroom and have one set up in a playroom or where your baby may nap in the day.

Sure Sight 2.0 Digital Video Monitor (£89.99) has state of the art technology for security and privacy, again also featuring zoom, nightlight, automatic night vision and temperature display. It is also their most affordable video baby monitor.

The Baby Touch Edge Digital Video Monitor (£159.99) has a high resolution 3.5" colour video touchscreen, the camera can pan, scan and zoom so you can truly follow your child wherever they go in the room. It is possible to buy single cameras to add to the monitor too.

The Wide View Digital Video Monitor (£129.99) allows parents to see 3 times as much of their child's bedroom and has a 5" colour screen monitor with automatic night vision. The camera pans, tilts and zooms giving parents control over where they want the camera to point.

The Baby Glow Digital Video Monitor (£119.99) combines the features of a video monitor with the Summer Infant Slumber Buddies (read our experience with the Soothing Turtle here) with a remote controlled 3 colour night sky projection and 5 soothing lullabies it helps parents create a calming environment for their children. Again, you can buy single cameras to add to this system too.

Finally, the Wide View 2.0 Digital Video Monitor* (£129.99), which is the video monitor we've been using with Poppy during her nap times. The Wide View Lens technology has allowed us to see 3 times as much of what will be Poppy's bedroom and the large 5" colour flat-screen monitor with automatic night vision enables us to keep an eye on her clearly and easily.

It features state of the art digital technology for security and privacy, which gives me such peace of mind. Our children's security is vital, so knowing that Summer Infant have incorporated this safety technology into their video monitors is just so reassuring. Another safety feature that we rely on is the temperature display because we live in an old house and it can get very cold (even in the summer months!). To help me judge what to put Poppy in to sleep I need to know the temperature, so having it clearly displayed on the large screen makes that decision a quick and easy one to make.
I've found the blue soft glow nightlight on the camera helps to create a calming environment for Poppy to sleep in. It also allows me to see what I'm going when putting her sleep or feeding her, rather than having the bright ceiling light on.
I'm also so happy that it has a two-way talkback feature because we have used that a lot with Isabella over the years and still do now. It just means we don't have to go upstairs straight away if they become unsettled and more often than not hearing our voice can send them back to sleep. I also like that my husband and I can use it to talk to each other; there have been times when my husbands been putting Poppy down for a nap and I've used the talkback feature on the Wide View 2.0 monitor to ask him to bring more nappies down or even as simple as if he wants a cup of tea making for when she's asleep. It just makes life that little bit easier.
If I could change anything it would be to be able to play lullabies and/or white noise through the monitor, but we do have the Soothing Turtle for that. Just something worth considering if you're baby likes white noise; the Summer Infant Baby Glow Video Monitor might be the one for you. Overall I'm really impressed with the Summer Infant Wide View 2.0 Digital Video Monitor; it allows us to see the all of Poppy's nursery that we need to, the monitor has a really clear display and the nightlight creates a calming environment.

What are the key features you look for in a baby monitor?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  3. These monitors all sound amazing. I had one of the Tommee Tippee movement sensor ones when my children were babies, but all of these options sound fantastic. Love that one of them comes with two cameras so that you only need one monitor. #twinklytuesday xx

  5. Fantastic recommendations here for a monitor. We really love ours. It has video, which has a very basic zoom function. It doesn't have two-way chat but I've never missed this feature to be honest. We definitely needed a monitor though, It's been so useful x

  7. We had the Angelcare one that had a sensor under the mattress. I loved it in the early days but then got fed up because he snored really loudly and kept waking me up with his snorts through the monitor! X

  10. I really like the idea of a wearable monitor for when you are pottering around the house. We never had a video one with my 2 but I quite like the idea, especially as they do like to climb!

  11. That's a great review (and comparison) for anyone in the market for a baby monitor. We had a video one too and used it until we moved house recently (our son was three and a half)!

  25. Main advantage of LCDs over CRTs is size since they are lightweight and more compact. Also, they use much less power energy making them more efficient. There is no image flickering and no voltage hazard during repairing.
