Happy Friday and September everyone! We had such a lovely long bank holiday weekend, enjoying the surprise sunshine. We visited yet another county fair, had a BBQ with my husband's family and even snuck in some shopping too. The working week was a quiet one, mostly spent getting jobs done around the house, blogging and sorting things out. Though these aren't the most exciting weeks, it feels good to have got some jobs done. I hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend too.
Nothing much to report for this one. Even the most recent gurgle magazine has been sitting on the side for a few days, there just hasn't been a moment to stop and enjoy reading it. Maybe next week...
Poppy fall asleep. I absolutely love being able to lay next to Poppy and watch her fall asleep either in the Babybay or wherever we are. We were at a family BBQ at the weekend and Poppy was desperate to sleep, so I lay her down on a picnic blanket and lay next to her. I sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and gradually she fell asleep (and I nearly did too) in my arms. Is there anything more perfect? My husband sneakily took this photo, an everyday moment that wouldn't usually be captured. It will be a sad day when Poppy is too big and wriggly for me to lay next to her when she falls asleep.
Isabella's increased vocabulary. Isabella's speech has come on so much over this summer; she's now saying sentences that are over seven words long and can very clearly communicate what she wants to say. I love the words that she doesn't quite get right the best though, like heartbeak for heartbeat when she's playing doctors. The health visitor that came to do her 27 month check commented on how good her speech was; I'm just so proud of her and everything she's achieving at the moment.
Apple and Blackberry Crumbles. It is so satisfying knowing exactly where your food comes from, so when our garden was offering plenty of apples and blackberries it only seemed right to make crumble! Isabella picked the apples and blackberries, we then peeled, chopped, cooked and put them into ovenproof dishes. To make the crumble topping I mixed together flour, butter, oats, ground almonds, cinnamon and soft brown sugar - delicious. We made individual portions, so that they could be put into the freezer for Isabella to have in weeks to come.
Sunglasses. How hot was it over the weekend? I just wasn't prepared for the sunshine, so after a quick paint of the nails and digging the sunglasses back out again we headed to a county fair. We just love these for a fun family day out; there's always so much for children to do, space for them to run around and tasty treats. The weather was so hot that we actually had to head home early to try and cool down! Trying to keep two children cool at the same time is hard work...roll on autumn.
Adventures in the straw field. My husband's family live next to a straw field, so Isabella and her big cousin went for a little adventure, closely followed/watched by all the adults, as we discussed how cute they are together. They were spotting tractors, climbing on the hay bales (with our help) and chasing each other. It took me right back to my childhood where I spent hours climbing all over the hay bales my grandparents had in their barn. My brothers and I used to have the best fun - oh to be a child again!
What have you been loving this week?
Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)
Helen x
Oh I love that straw photo! Sounds like a good week. I loved watching Erin's vocabulary increase and having full on chats with her - it's such a lovely time! Can't wait to experience it all again with my youngest too!
ReplyDeleteThe straw field looks like so much fun, and she looks so adorable sleeping in your arms x
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, my eldest is nearly eight and there are still times when he asks for a long cuddle at bedtimes - and it's not unusual for us both to fall asleep! Sounds like a lovely last-week-of-summer!
ReplyDeleteAw, the not-quite-right words are the best, aren't they? I'm a little heartbroken every time Matilda starts to pronounce something correctly - long may she talk about "ephelants".
ReplyDeleteawww soo cute..Isabella must be speaking really well for a 27-month old.xx
ReplyDeleteYour Apple crumble sounds heavenly. We've been on holiday with our friends and their 19month old - hearing her learn new words everyday is magical!
ReplyDeleteI have been loving spending time with my kids. School starts next week and I am not looking forward to it. I love watching my kids sleep too. Cutest thing ever.
ReplyDeleteI love a good home made crumble. So glad Autumn is here at last.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely when they can speak sentences, I'm loving this with my grandson. I think the photo in the field is my absolute favourite this week! If they were my girls I would definitely have it on my wall

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I've been able to wear my sunglasses! It's been so warm where we are. I love that photo of you sipping tea :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely round up, it sounds like you've had such fun this week. Love your photos! Love your idea of making crumble in individual portions too - I need to be more organised with things like that.
ReplyDeleteThose hay bales look fab and I'd love to climb them! Cute photo! I enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteOoh fruit crumbles are the best, although actually we have an apple tree in our garden and too many apples so a bit fed up with apple crumble by now! :)

ReplyDeleteI was surprised how hot the bank holiday weekend was and wasnt prepared for it but went to London and chilled in Hyde's Park.
