TRAVEL: A Winter Mini Break at Meadow Cottage, Wales

One Friday my husband text me asking if we should go away for that weekend, a spur of the moment mini family break. This isn't like us at all; I'm all about the planning and looking forward to a holiday. However, after hours of browsing the internet for areas to visit and hotels that would allow four people to sleep in one room, we decided to abandon the idea. The United Kingdom is a big old place to search for hotels when you have no idea where you want to go. We didn't give up on the idea completely, but instead started searching airbnb for a self catering place to stay. That way we would all have our own bedroom, space to relax in the evening and believe it or not it is a much cheaper option.

After lots of searching different areas we finally settled on Wales because it's not somewhere we have been as a family yet. The stunning landscape and open space was just what we needed for some quality family time. We stumbled across a beautiful Eco-Cottage set in a meadow, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, called Meadow Cottage. It was just over the border into Wales, so not too far from where we live, making it the perfect 'long weekend' location. The features that particularly attracted us were the wood burner, lack of internet (there is good 4G and they are getting wifi very soon, don't panic) and three bedrooms. We would all have our own room, could cosy up in the evenings while playing board games and explore the three acres of meadows right on the doorstep. Winter mini break perfection.

Meadow Cottage has three bedrooms (sleeping up to 7 people), a well equipped kitchen, solar hot water, open plan living area, wood burner and a travel cot/highchair is available. Everything you could want and need for a holiday in the countryside, as well as bikes being available to hire too. The Cottage is set in three acres of meadow and alongside the kitchen garden, which is where produce is grown for guests to help themselves. This is such a dream of mine, one day I hope to have a garden filled with home grown fruit and vegetables.

When we arrived we were greeted with a lovely welcome note from the owner, Andrea, as well as some delicious biscuits, homemade apple juice from the orchard in the meadow and the cosy wood burner on. It's these little touches that really make a stay extra special. The cottage was beautifully presented, filled with essentials (including: herbs, spices, washing up liquid, clingfilm etc.) and the views simply speak for themselves. The swing nestled in the top corner of the meadow is perfectly positioned to make the most of the views, such a quiet spot to relax and unwind.
The cottage is near to Presteigne, just over the border into Wales. There are plenty of places to explore during your stay, especially if you enjoy the outdoors. During our mini break we visited Elan Valley, Ludlow and Croft Castle, all of which I would highly recommend. I have a blog post coming on our outdoor adventures during this mini break, if you want to see what we got up to.
Where is your favourite place for a mini winter break?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)
