TRAVEL: A Festive Family Weekend at Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market with Macdonald Hotels

TRAVEL: A Festive Family Weekend at Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market with Macdonald Hotels

Christmas is well and truly coming and I for one am incredibly excited this year. Perhaps more so than previous years because it is our last Christmas that both Isabella and Poppy are at home on the run up to the big day. Next year Isabella will have started school, so our festivities will have to be kept to the weekend, but for now we are all about getting into the festive spirit every day of the week. Where better to do this than at a Christmas Market? There are many of them happening right now across the country with entertainment, stalls and an atmosphere filled with Christmas cheer. Our closest one is in Birmingham, which is exactly where we headed last weekend for a festive family getaway.
Macdonald Hotels & Resorts kindly invited us to experience their Burlington Hotel in the centre of Birmingham, as it is the ideal location for exploring the Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market. Located on New Street it's central location means that it is easy for families to discover Birmingham on foot, as well as have a base for those all important naps that isn't too far away. When we arrived at the hotel we were faced with a beautifully decorated festive foyer with a cosy seating area and friendly staff waiting at reception. Once we had checked in we were shown to our rooms, which were on the fifth floor and interconnecting. The Macdonald Burlington Hotel have a range of interconnecting rooms that make staying in a hotel with young children a much more enjoyable experience. There's no need to spend the evening in the bathroom is laying in a silent dark room while your children sleep; instead you can put them to bed and then enjoy a relaxing evening in peace. We stayed in rooms 502 and 503, both of which were extremely spacious so Isabella and Poppy absolutely loved playing between them (as well as playing hide and seek). I was seriously impressed with the size of the rooms; we could have very easily all fitted into one room and there was a comfortable seating area too; a rarity in city centre hotels.
At Macdonald Burlington Hotel there are a range of bedrooms available starting at Classic and going all the way to City Style Suite. We stayed in Executive Rooms that was equipped with fluffy dressing gowns, complementary Elemis toiletries, a mini fridge, slippers, free WiFi and a large king size bed. All the luxurious touches to make a stay that extra bit special. There is also the option to have a rollaway bed for children and/or a cot, so if you're travelling with little ones you can rest assure that they are catered for at Macdonald hotels.
The restaurant inside the Burlington Hotel is Scottish Steak Club, which is where you eat if you book a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package. As it opens at 6pm and the girls go to bed then we decided to opt for room service, which was a game changer in the world of travelling with young children. Due to the fact that we had interconnecting rooms it meant that we could put Isabella and Poppy to bed, then order dinner to enjoy in our room. We were impressed with the range of dishes available via room service, including Fish and Chips, Salads, Burger, Thai Curry, Sandwiches, Side Dishes, Afternoon Tea, Desserts etc. We started with a tomato soup each, then I went for a Cheese and Pickle Sandwich, whilst my husband went for a Burger with extra Bacon and we both had Warm Chocolate Brownie for pudding. All of the dishes were incredibly delicious and served hot despite being brought to the room.
As previously mentioned, the stand out feature of the Macdonald Burlington Hotel at this time of year has to be its location, as it is right next to the Frankfurt Christmas Market. Having said that, it is in such a convenient location for shopping trips all year round! Outside the front door of the hotel are the many cute wooden cabins serving hot chocolates, mulled wine, food, crafts, gifts and toys. We absolutely loved being able to pop in and out of our hotel rooms with the children because it meant we didn't have to get too cold and when the rain made an appearance we could get under cover quickly. The location, facilities and helpful staff make this hotel a family-friendly option all year round, but especially during the time when the Christmas Market is on.

Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market is the place to go for delicious food, warming drinks, traditional gifts and live music for the children to dance to. It has been running for over 15 years and is on until 23rd December 2018, so not long if you are wanting to visit. The Christmas Market is such a magical place to visit and the perfect place to get into the festive spirit. As you walk around you're faced with a sensory journey through the smells of caramelised nuts, chestnuts and mulled wine, the sound of carousels, singers and chatter, as well as seeing the twinkly lights, cute gift stalls and many funny dressed up reindeer statues. It's a must-visit on the run up to Christmas, if not this year then next.
Macdonald Hotels & Resorts also have a number of other hotels that are in perfect locations for exploring Christmas Markets, including their Manchester Hotel, Bath Spa Hotel, Crutherland House Hotel in Glasgow and Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh. So, why not discover your local Christmas Market and get into the festive spirit with friends and family?

Have you visited any Christmas Markets this year?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)
