PREGNANCY #3: Gender Reveal!

PREGNANCY #3: Gender Reveal!
The time has come, the date that we had been counting down to with excitement and anticipation, the moment we find out the gender of our third baby. It's a big moment in our family's life; will it be a boy or girl joining us in October? Isabella has predicted another little girl, my husband has too and since the 12 week scan I'm convinced we'll be welcoming our third baby girl into our family. All I know if that girl or boy he/she will be showered with so much love from the four of us that either way we are all beyond excited.

We booked in for a private gender scan at 16 weeks and didn't tell a soul. I was too nervous to let anyone know and it was exciting having another pregnancy milestone as a secret between my husband and I. We didn't even tell Isabella and Poppy; well that was until we were in the car on the way to the appointment. My tummy was filled with butterflies, as I asked one last time which gender everyone thought we were having. My mind was going off into our future, imaging what it would be like being a family of five with three girls or two girls and a boy. Those moments prior to finding out were filled with such anticipation and excitement; we were finally going to find out what our family was going to look like going forward.
As we arrived for the appointment the girls played with the toys in the waiting room while I looked around at all of the 3D and 4D scans around the room. Reminiscing about being there when we found out with Isabella and Poppy, what their scans looked like and once again wondering whether the strong feelings that we were having a boy for the first 12 weeks were true or whether the nub theory and now thinking we were having a girl was going to be right. When the lady came in to tell us it was our turn my stomach did flips, as we headed down the corridor into the scan room. I lay on the bed and explained to Isabella that the baby in my tummy was going to come up on the big television in front of us.

It's always such a nerve-wracking moment just before the baby pops up on the screen; the hope that everything is still alright and that their heart is beating away. Quickly the worry diminished as we saw our baby wriggling around with the flicker of the heartbeat going strong, such a relief. It always amazes me how much babies change in-between scans; we'd had one at 8 weeks, then at 12 weeks, now at 16 weeks and the change was mind blowing in such a relatively short amount of time. Women's bodies really are incredible.

After the sonographer had done a few checks, shown us the baby from head to toe it came to the moment we had all been waiting for...looking in-between the legs. It didn't take us long to recognise what we were having....a baby boy!! After having two gender scans with girls there is most definitely a noticeable difference between girls and boys, as you'd expect. The lady confirmed our predictions and we were all beyond excited about the idea of welcoming a baby boy into our family. Poppy is a bit too young to understand, but Isabella was really excited to have a brother. Luckily, we didn't have any disappointed feelings from her, as she was predicting she'd be having another little sister.
We have now known for little over a month and the news has settled in a bit more now (we wanted to have the gender confirmed at the 20 week scan before announcing it on here). After having such strong feelings that I was carrying a boy for the first 12 weeks (you can read more about whether we were hoping for a girl or boy here) then being so convinced it was another little girl I was honestly shocked to find out that my original feelings were correct.
I'd never had a strong feeling either way when I was pregnant with the girls, so it has been funny not only having a feeling but then it being right too. Admittedly, the world of boys does scare me a bit, simply because it is the unknown. We know everything there is to know about raising girls (up to the age of four anyway), but even the simple things like changing a boys nappy feels intimidating and scary at the moment. However, it is so exciting to be expecting a little brother for the girls and I can't wait to learn, discover and immerse myself into the world of baby boys. Something different for what will probably be our last baby.

  5. Congratulations! I totally agree about changing the different nappies being daunting. I am so used to changing boy nappies that doing a girl now would be so strange at first

  11. We didn’t find out either time. My best friend was told in all her scans she was having a girl and then it was a boy, so we thought what’s the point and decided to go for a surprise. We ended up having two boys - and my eldest boy’s favourite colour is actually pink, so in our house we always says pink is for boys :)
