If I'm ever wanting an 'extra special' meal, perhaps for a dinner party or just after a hard week at work, I can guarantee it will have cheese in it somewhere. Whether it be a macaroni cheese, homemade rustic pizza, baked Camembert, cheese fondue, goats cheese tart or salad, even something as simple as cheese on toast! Cheese is one wonderful ingredient that turns a 'mediocre' dish into something oh so very tasty.
I've recently found THE most perfect Christmas present for any cheese lover -

It's a brilliant kit that has everything (other than milk) to make your own cheese - how amazing?! The best thing is it takes less than 1 hour to make, no more disappointment when you open the fridge ready to make a homemade pizza, only to find that you don't have any mozzarella or that its gone mouldy! There are a variety of kits available, including Ricotta and Mozzarella, Goats cheese and Scottish Crowdie.
I love the idea of giving this as a present to someone for Christmas, along with an invitation to have a rustic homemade pizza party at your house. What a lovely way to turn a present into an experience! You could host the dinner party by having bowls full of different pizza toppings, letting your guests knead and roll out their own pizza dough, having a go at making their own mozzarella, and then finally enjoy your the pizzas with a nice cold glass of wine. A unique experience that would bring a smile to everyone's face in the lull after Christmas.
The Big Cheese Making Kit kindly offered to send me the Mozzarella and Ricotta Kit to have a go at making it myself. As a complete foodie I couldn't wait to have a go at making my own cheese! The kits are available from The Big Cheese Making Kit website and are only £19. Baring in mind that each kit makes 10 batches of cheese, that's over 20lbs of cheese, as well as the unique experience of actually making the cheese, I think £19 is very reasonable.

You can also add your own herbs and spices to the cheese, so that you can create something completely unique every time. I know that if I gave this to my Dad he would add chilli, and a lot of it! If I gave it to my brother, he'd add a lot of oregano to the mozzarella because he loves loads of it on pizzas!
Here's the process through my lens...

(It looks a bit gross at this stage but stay with me, in about 3 minutes it will look a lot more like mozzarella!)

There you have it, homemade mozzarella! I used this to make a couple of recipes that will be coming up on my blog. It was so delicious, kept it's shape and melted like a dream.
The Big Cheese Making Kit has to be on your Christmas present buying list this year, it is such a unique experience and one any foodie would love.
