#LITTLELOVES: 13 Reasons Why, Desk Organisation and Homemade Soup

This was my last full working week, thanks to the bank holiday next week, prior to maternity leave. I seriously can't believe I'm almost starting my second maternity leave, in some ways it feels like last time yet in others it couldn't be more different. I'm certainly a lot less prepared this time, as soon as I properly start my first job is to shop for and pack my hospital bag! Time is ticking and it would truly be a panic if I don't have it ready in time. I'm also excited to start booking in for a couple of pampering treatments and getting my hair cut - that's the hope anyway :)

Things I want my sons to know by Laura from Five Little Doves blog. I loved reading this blog post about the thing Laura wishes her two sons will learn as they grow up. Though I don't have any sons most of these messages I'd also like my daughter's to grow up knowing too. Especially be kind, learn to have fun without alcohol, look after your siblings, it's okay to make mistakes, be proud of yourself and love with all of your heart to name a few.
13 Reasons Why. I started watching this after seeing it pop up on quite a few #LittleLoves posts and I'm so glad I did. It's truly gripping and does leave you asking questions. If you've not heard of it before it's a series on Netflix about a teenage girl who committed and the reasons why she did. At first I had to persuade my husband to watch it with me, he wasn't convinced it would be any good. Oh how wrong was he?! It's now him suggesting we watch it and moaning if I dare talk throughout it. I think we're on episode five, so still plenty to go.

I know I've mentioned this before in this section, but the most magical thing I heard this week was our baby's heartbeat again. I had my 34 week midwife appointment on Thursday, which went well other than baby being back to back. So lots of kneeling on all fours to try and get baby to move around is now on the cards.

Sweetcorn Chowder. This soup was inspired by the recipe Cathryn published over on her lovely blog, Little Paper Swans. I didn't have any leeks, so I used red onion instead and it was really delicious. I made the soup using low salt stock, which meant Isabella could enjoy it too. I'd not really made a sweetcorn based soup before, but the addition of couscous makes this a pretty substantial lunch choice. Also, can we take a minute to appreciate how cute this bamboo penguin plate is? It was an absolute bargain at £1.50 from Aldi, just wish I had picked up more now.

Over last weekend the weather was just beautiful, the sun shone but it wasn't too hot. My perfect kind of day! Isabella was given this pretty floral sun hat for her birthday and the weekend was the first time she had worn it. Last year we spent the whole summer constantly battling with Isabella to keep her sun hat on, straps or no straps she'd somehow get it off. Yet so far this year she has loved having it on, so fingers crossed that this attitude continues.

As I now only have two more day left at work before maternity leave starts I have started to get organised. This started with tidying my desk, which I haven't worked at for months. Sitting on the sofa is seriously uncomfortable these days, as the baby sits right under my ribs. So in an attempt to be more comfortable I'm going to sit at my desk to work from now on. It makes me feel so much more productive, organised and like I can attack my to-do list head on.

What have you been loving this week?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  6. Enjoy your leave. My eldest has got me into 13 reasons why although I've only seen parts of episodes as I walk in on him watching it. I want to read the book after just to see how they adapted it! The sweetcorn chowder looks delicious too.
