#LITTLELOVES: The Naked Truth, Maternity Leave and Prison Break

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you've had a lovely week and been enjoying the sunshine (though it's been pretty cold here still). Isabella and I enjoyed a very blustery picnic in the garden yesterday. It looked like a beautiful day outside, so we gathered all of our things together to set up for a picnic outside only to be faced with a ridiculous amount of wind. The determined British attitude meant I decided to just deal with it, so we ended up eating a lot of hair as we ate our lunch.

Pregnancy: the Naked Truth by Anya Hayes and Hollie Smith*. I've been reading this book for a few weeks now, in an attempt to get my head around looking after a newborn baby again. It's such an easy read with the perfect combination of experiences from other parents, facts and options for you to consider. There are 10 chapters across the whole of your pregnancy: You're pregnant, Sick and Tired, Womb with a View, Care Instructions, Office Politics, Hit and Missionary, Delivery Schedule, Ready for Take-Off, Labour Days, Birth Stories and Hey, Baby! As you can probably tell by the titles of the chapters, there is a sense of humour throughout this book making it great for a worrier like me. I have honestly forgotten so much when it comes to labour, the pain relief options and most importantly how to care for a newborn. Reading the latter part of this book has reminded, educated and comforted me as I quickly approach my due date. It's a really good book to pick up whenever you have five minutes, as a lot of the options/information is presented in bullet points.

Prison Break. I was absolutely obsessed with the first few series of this, in fact I think it was the first series my husband and I binge watched because we were that addicted. However, the current series on tv I’m not enjoying as much if I’m honest. It’s just a bit farfetched and confusing for my liking, certainly not anywhere near as gripping in my opinion. Though I feel like I have to watch it because I’ve seen all the others – anyone else like that when it comes to watching a series?

The ‘goodbyes’ from everyone at work, as I walk off into the maternity leave sunset. It was quite emotional handing over my ID badge at the end of the day. There goes adult/non-baby related conversation for at least the next year!
Berry Smoothie. To make the most of starting maternity leave Isabella and I made a smoothie for breakfast. This one was banana, frozen forest fruit berries, apple juice, water and avocado. So refreshing and coordinated with the flowers too!

I’m struggling to fit into any of my clothes without things being too short or too tight. This bump of mine is feeling huge and it means that getting dressed is becoming a real challenge. The fight to get my tights over my swollen feet/ankles then pulled up is becoming quite a sight in the morning. A lot of huffing and puffing happens before I managed to squish the bump enough to lean down and get the tights on my feet! Third trimester pregnancy problems aren’t a pretty sight at the best of times. Having said that I know as soon as I give birth I’ll be longing for my bump back again.

Maternity leave started. It does feel very different this time though, there isn't quite the same level of excitement as last time. I'm not exactly sure why - perhaps it's not having a group of friends also starting maternity leave at the same time or knowing what's to come or worrying about life will be like with two children. Either way I have been feeling quite emotional about it all, in fact I wrote a very honest, open blog post all about this which you can read here if you want to.

What have you been loving this week?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  1. Reading your post reminded me so much of my pregnancy and how much I actually enjoyed it. I also drank alot of smoothie during those 9 months and enjoyed adding avocado in them as well! #ThatFridayLinky

  2. I hope that you enjoy your maternity leave, I totally agree it is not the same second time around. I think it is because you already have a child to look after so you can't properly relax x

  8. We watched Battlestar Gallactica and it definitely deteriorated and we were disappointed by the ending but it felt like an achievement to have watched it all. We haven't watched Prison Break but we have thought about it

  10. Congratulations on starting maternity leave. That book sounds great. I promise you will soon remember how to look after a newborn second time round. It was the juggle of 2 children needing me I struggled with. A great suggestion someone made to me was to have a bag/basket with books/activities that comes out when you are feeding the baby for your eldest to do close by. #littleloves

  14. I hope you're enjoying your maternity leave. I know what you mean about it feeling different the second time around though, I felt just the same. I love Claire's suggestion of having a bag of toys and books for the older child to play with while you feed. Have a lovely week x

  16. Maternity leave really is very different once you have a child at home! Loving the sound of making smoothies together though. I hope you manage to find some good quality time to spend with Isabella before the new arrival. And rest too of course! Hmmmm.
