It's been a funny week this week, as there's been some lovely moments and other really stressful ones. But I guess that's parenthood in a nutshell. Poor Poppy suddenly came down with a temperature of 38.4'C on Monday, so I rang the doctors who advised I went straight in. I was seen really quickly and the doctor checked Poppy's ears, throat, tummy etc. I had forgotten how stressful and worrying it is when your little baby is poorly and you don't know why - I was only managing to keep it together because Isabella was with me. It turned out Poppy was coming down with tonsillitis and she was prescribed some antibiotics. On a more positive note we officially registered Poppy, had a lovely family walk at a reservoir we'd been meaning to visit for years at the weekend and I took the girls to a new Hartbeeps toddler class where Isabella enjoyed transforming into a superhero.
Isabella's 2 year check questionnaire. We received this in the post a few weeks ago, but finally got around to filling it in this week. The questionnaire covers things like how your child moves, fine motor skills, speech, how well they follow instructions and copy your actions. It was interesting to fill in, as there were certain ones I wasn't sure whether Isabella could do or not. For instance, whether should could twist a handle/lid - turns out she could undo my water bottle without a problem. We were due to have Isabella's 2 year and Poppy's 6 week check with the health visitor this week, but she had to cancel. Hopefully they will both pass with flying colours - I always get so nervous about the official checks!
In the Dark on BBC. It's a series that's been on for a few weeks now and yet again it's a gripping drama. It's based around a lady who works for the police, with lots of twists and turns. Well worth a watch if you were a Broadchurch fan. Of course, this week couldn't pass without mentioning the final of Love Island! I'm so happy that Kem and Amber won - Kem is so funny and entertaining. Though I would have been happy if Olivia and Chris had won too; I'm looking forward to seeing them all on various daytime tv shows (such a bonus of being on maternity leave). I had been really enjoying catching up on Love Island each nap time, but now I've lost that 'treat' I need to get into a different series. Do you think the right people won?
Registering Poppy officially. On Thursday we finally headed to get Poppy officially registered. She was actually over the 6 weeks you're meant to get them registered in, but the registry office was extremely busy. It is such an exciting moment making your little bundle of joy an official member of society! Up until the day of registering her we hadn't decided on a middle name - it had been between two or three names since before she was born. We are such indecisive people and choosing a name is a decision that will stay with them for the rest of their lives, that's a lot of pressure.
Baths for Poppy and Isabella using Earth Friendly Baby products. For the past few weeks I have got into more of a routine when it comes to bathing Poppy and Isabella together (mainly thanks to the Minene Bath Buddy - see more details here). It's been making life so much easier getting them both washed at the same time, but it has meant considering what bath products I use. Earth Friendly Baby are one of my favourite brands when it comes to baby bath products because they're natural, organic and so gentle on the skin. I was kindly sent the Calming Lavender Bubble Bath, Shampoo & Bodywash and Body Lotion, which I've been using when bathing the girls, as I bath them at night and the scent is so relaxing. They also have products in Soothing Chamomile, Gentle Aloe Vera , Happy Mandarin and Moisturising Shea, depending on what you like from a bath product for your children. I also like that the packaging is eco friendly, they're made in the UK and not tested on animals.
New duvet cover. Ok, so this is a slightly tenuous link but I've been wearing the same old milk stained nursing dresses since Poppy was born so the best I can do is that Isabella's bed 'wore' a new duvet set from the John Lewis sale. It was such a bargain, reduced from £40 to £14! Her bed is antique and therefore a slightly awkward size (not quite cot bed but certainly not a single). She has a cot bed size duvet cover, but I've found it hard to find slightly more 'grown up' cot bed duvet covers. This cover is perfect and now means we have two so the washing doesn't have to have such a quick turn around anymore. Phew.
Poppy had her best nights sleep ever this week. On Tuesday night she only woke up twice between 9.30pm and 5.30am!! I had been getting up every hour with her from around 12am until the morning, so twice was a massive improvement and best of all I managed to sleep too. I remember when Isabella was a baby I would be so paranoid that even on the rare occasions when she did sleep I would be awake staring at her to check she was still breathing. That's the nice thing about being a second time parent; I'm more relaxed and am managing to actually get some sleep when Poppy sleeps. Long may these longer stretches of sleep continue!
What have you been loving this week?
