READ: Jodi Picoult

When I was younger I wasn't really a big reader, I'd enjoy the odd book but certainly wasn't one of these children who loved reading! However, as I've grown older I've started to appreciate taking half an hour out of a busy day to sit down and get lost in a book. I don't think we have enough time to sit down, relax and just enjoy reading a book. I am quite closed minded when it comes to the books I read though, two years ago I read Fifty Shades of Grey, that was the first book I had read that wasn't by my favourite author, Jodi Picoult.

Her books are gripping, often quite sad but always have that 'I don't want to put this down' effect. On the front of most books by Jodi Picoult there is a hard hitting sentence and then a question - What would you do? It's often a moral dilemma, which is why I think I enjoy these books so much, I'm always wanting to know what the outcome will be. My favourite book by Jodi Picoult is - Nineteen Minutes (I've read it 6 times) - a story about a boy who goes into his secondary school and opens fire for nineteen minutes. The story then follows what happens after that, there are often court cases involved, which I find tremendously interesting.

Jodi Picoult is perhaps most famous for 'My Sister's Keeper', which was made into a movie. I haven't actually read that book or watched the film as I think I'd find it too upsetting. Her books aren't a light, easy going read -  they are often dark, really make you think and question your own choices in life - but that's also what makes me want to go back and read them again and again and again!

I can't recommend her books enough, so if you're looking for a new read go and hunt down a Jodi Picoult book.

Have you read any Jodi Picoult?

Feel free to leave me a comment :)

  2. I've read a couple of her books - I remember the first being The Pact, but after that I don't know, I just couldn't get into her enough to carry on reading any more. I was going to say maybe it's because they are somewhat dark and depressing like you mentioned, but then I love a good thriller or a murder. We just never really clicked!

  4. I have read most of her books & and am a big fan. Like you say, it is the questions that draw you in & get you thinking about how you'd deal with the issue in the book. I think my favourite has to be 'The Pact' though.

  5. I love Jodi Picoult, alongside Cecelia Ahern she is my favourite author. You can never go wrong with a Jodi Picoult book in my eyes - and Nineteen Minutes is my absolute favourite too. If you like Jodi Picoult, you might also like Diane Chamberlain. The two's writing styles are often compared - although they are quite different in all honesty. The similarity is the 'what would you do aspect?'. I only recently dipped my toe in to Diane Chamberlain's work but I would recommend her novels if you was looking for something along the same lines.
