BABY: Deciding which travel cot to get

Isabella has now well and truly outgrown her moses basket - such a sad time and one that means we need a travel cot when we go away now, rather than just taking her moses basket.
When I started looking into the travel cot options and various features I was overwhelmed! The choice is extensive, with each company offering something slightly different. When I thought about what we wanted from a travel cot I came up with the following features:
  • Lightweight - I'm always carrying a million and one things as it is.
  • Compact - our cars aren't really big enough as it is!
  • Suitable for the length of time Isabella will need a cot, therefore not needing to buy another one.
  • Multifunctional - again linking in with the lack of car space when travelling.
  • Quick and easy to assemble - time is a luxury when you have a baby.

Quite a lot to ask from a travel cot. But not impossible as the NSAuk Deluxe Pop Up Travel Cot Large* (£79.99 from SafeTots) has all of these features and more.  This travel cot pops up (hence the name!) so it is really quick to set up and even quicker to pack away. This is the Ocean colour, but it is also available in blue, red, purple, yellow and pistachio - so plenty of choice.

I could not believe how easily the travel cot popped up, then all you have to do is velcro on the sleep mat and slide the mattress into the pocket on the underside of the cot. It honestly took less than 2 minutes to put up! I was expecting it to be harder to put down, a lot of these 'pop up' tents are hard to get back into the bags they come with. But I was pleasantly surprised - my husband managed to fold the travel cot away with the instructions in one hand and the cot in the other. The mattress actually took longer to put away as you have to roll it up to get rid of the air, but still very simple to do. I couldn't be more impressed!

Everything you need fits into this compact bag, which is the perfect size for sliding into that tiny space left in the car once everything else is tightly packed in. The self inflating mattress even folds up into the bag. I found the mattress to actually not be that self inflating - I unscrewed the valve and it didn't really inflate that much. I had to add some extra air to make it as inflated as I wanted it to be, all it took was a couple of puffs though.

The NSAuk Pop Up Travel Cot is designed to have lots of ventilation to ensure that children don't overheat in the cot. You can have both sides up, although I would have liked a tie to hold up the insect netting and there are two vented sections at either end of it. So plenty of ways for the air to flow around them.

This large version lasts from 0-4 years old, making it the one and only travel cot you would need for your child. Now that Isabella is in her cot she suits this size travel cot perfectly and it's great that it will be suitable for the next 3.5 years too! Personally, I wouldn't have put Isabella into this travel cot when she was a couple of months old. This is mainly because I liked to have her at eye level and this sits on the floor. But that's down to personal preference.

Aside from being a travel cot this also doubles up as a safe area children can play either inside, in the garden or on the beach. It comes with ground pegs, so can be attached to the ground ensuring it doesn't fly away! I really like that you can zip it up, especially if you were using it on the beach as it would minimise the amount of sand that could get in. (You'd probably find me in there as I hate sand!)
Overall this travel cot is everything we wanted from a travel cot and more - it's perfect. Its compact size, quick set up and easy put away makes this a travel cot I can't recommend highly enough.

What do you look for in a travel cot?

  1. Interesting! I'm actually looking for a travel cot for my 1 year old and if this one lasts until she will be 4 it is not bad. I might contact them. Thanks for sharing, :-) x

  2. What a good idea for a travel cot! I used to hate ours when my boys were small as it was always so hard to put up and take down.

  5. I was looking for something like this for when we went to Spain. We visit relatives in Devon and this would be great to fit into the car rather than our bulky one. Thanks for linking to #PickNMix

  7. If you're planning to go out on the water anytime soon, make sure to seal your paddle board before you go. It will help keep your board safe and your belongings dry in any weather conditions.Calgary travel agency

  11. I would be happiest taking my sewing machine and all accoutrements when going on vacation, but sadly, hubby would likely say that I can sew at home, so we may as well STAY at home! I can't go away though without some kind of project to work on.keta korea
