Cooking is just one of my things. I studied Food Technology to A-Level and have spent my life enjoying cooking and baking. I remember one of my proudest childhood moments was when I cooked my family a three course meal at the age of 9 years old (with a little bit of help with hot things). It's just always been something I've loved, so when it came to weaning Isabella I didn't take the responsibility lightly.
I've absolutely loved making puree's and little meals for her, most of which I've frozen to use as and when needed. I've been making purees, putting them into small pots (these ones from NUBY and Brother Max are my favourite), freezing them and then popping them out and putting the frozen blocks into a labelled resealable sandwich bag.

I've been making purees, putting them into small pots (these ones from NUBY and Brother Max are my favourite), freezing them and then popping them out and putting the frozen blocks into a labelled resealable sandwich bag.
However, the problem I've found with doing this method is that when we are out over lunch time I don't have any purees ready in pots to go (and trying to fit a frozen block back into a small pot is almost impossible - I've tried!). This is when I've been using these incredibly convenient Pouches from Nom-Nom Kids* (£20 for the weaning kit). I've been taking out a block of frozen puree the night before and letting it defrost overnight in the pouch. They are ideal for when Isabella doesn't eat the whole defrosted block because they are easily opened and closed with the screw top.
To fill a Nom-Nom Kids pouch you just open up the side, like you would a sandwich bag, fill it with your desired food and then close it like you would a sandwich bag. It's that easy! To make them even better you can reuse them time and time again, they're dishwasher and freezer safe and BPA/Phthalate/PVC free. You can fill these pouches with anything that is smooth enough to come out of the top, for example yogurt, pureed fruit/vegetables, smoothies, bought baby food etc.
Because they're freezer safe they work perfectly in older children's lunch boxes - you could spoon in their favourite yogurt, close the pouch up and freeze it. In the morning put it straight into your child's lunchbox and then by lunch time they'll have cool yogurt and it will have kept the rest of their food fresh too.
Nom-Nom Kids Pouches are cost effective due to the fact that they are reusable, prevent waste and enable you to buy bigger (cheaper) pots of yogurt etc and decant into smaller portions. They also help to reduce the level of mess children create when eating - it still surprises me the mess Isabella can get into when eating!
What's your favourite feature of the Nom-Nom Kids Pouches?
