PREGNANCY #2: 23 Week Update

Only one more week and this pregnancy will be classed as 'viable', a milestone I'm eager to reach as quickly as possible. It's been a bit of an up and down week this week, with some niggling issues and a growing bump. Last week I wrote about how my bump had been getting smaller in the morning and then bigger again by the afternoon, well this week it's stayed big. I can no longer wear clothes and not look pregnant, especially as the bump seems to be pretty high up. It's actually making wearing an underwired bra pretty uncomfortable, so I need to go maternity bra shopping soon. I loved bravado designs! nursing bras last time and will need to check out what's on the market nowadays.

Once again she's spent the week kicking away, mainly when I sit down to get some work done. She'll spend the whole time distracting me, which I love but it is a distraction nonetheless. There have been many more times I've noticed my tummy moving as she kicks, especially when I'm in the bath as it makes the water ripple. It's so reassuring feeling the kicks everyday, I love this stage of pregnancy so much.

Having said that, this week has been plagued with various little niggles. My ankles have started to swell up by the evening, oh joy. I had such bad water retention when I was pregnant with Isabella, especially after giving birth. It's not painful, just unsightly, so lots of laying with my legs raised in the air (oh what a sight, sorry!) I've also started getting cramps, something I never suffer from when I'm not pregnant. Again, nothing major just a little niggle that's started this week.

The biggest symptom I've been having has been heartburn, or the dragon feeling as I've named it. Some days its felt like I've downed a bottle of acid and it's now gurgling at the top of my throat. It's not been an everyday occurrence, luckily, but I've had to go to bed early on a number of occasions just to try and escape it. I've now been recommended Tums to try, so they're on this weeks shopping list. It's not the worst pregnancy symptom going, but its been making me feel poorly/sick and often paired with a headache. Not easy to deal with while running around after a toddler.

On a positive note my skin has started to clear up, for the first part of this pregnancy my skin went crazy. The hormones were making me break out, have really dry flaky skin (which reminded me how bad it got while I was breastfeeding Isabella) and giving me various darker patches. It's finally settled down now, though I'm anticipating its return nearing the end of pregnancy. I'll enjoy the 'glow' while it lasts!

Do you have any maternity/nursing bra brand recommendations?

Feel free to leave a comment - I love reading every single one :)

  1. I have two M&S 'non wired sumptuously soft' bras which are so comfortable so would recommend but they are quite pricey at £20 each but I barely notice I'm wearing one! Love your blog and reading your pregnancy updates xx
